Feature type: Knob
This name originates from New Zealand. It is part of the New Zealand Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
Names that other countries have for this feature:
The highest point and the southern extremity of Possession Island, the largest of the Possession Islands. About 100m high.
Named in text in Borchgrevink's 'First on the Antarctic Continent' presumably for A. Archer, Esquire, of Australia, mentioned in the preface to Borchgrevink's First on the Antarctic Continent, or for Colin Archer who designed Borchgrevink's vessel, the Southern Cross. The Provisional Gazetteer noted the feature was previously named Anchor Peak by Bull in 1895 during his cruise in the Antarctic but in 1962 this statement was unable to be resubstantiated.
