Feature type: Glacier
This name originates from New Zealand. It is part of the New Zealand Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
Names that other countries have for this feature:
A glacier, 5km long, flowing north from Skew Peak to abut against the ice of Mackay Glacier at the Chain Moraines, Victoria Land. Feature depicted on: NZ AntTopo50-MD07
The name relates to the appearance of the glacier as a sprocket 'wrapped' by the Chain Moraines, and the use of a bicycle as a practical means of transportation by a glacial mapping party led by Trevor Chinn, summer season 1992-93. Part of a theme of cycling names in the area. Approved by New Zealand Geographic Board (NZGB) in 1995.
