Narrative

A steep glacier flowing from Descent Pass, Royal Society Range into Ferrar Glacier, Scott Coast. Feature depicted on NZ AntTopo50-MF09

Named For

Originally Descent Pass and Descent Glacier were considered as one feature 'Descent Pass', named by Armitage of the NAE, 1901-04. Eg, the glacier was the 'pass' between Ferrar Glacier and Blue Glacier. Later texts such as the BAE 1911-14 Physiography of McMurdo Sound refer to 'Descent Pass Glacier'. During mapping in the 1960's, the one name became two, 'Descent Pass' and 'Descent Glacier'.
