Narrative

A rock 3.5km northwest of Mount Nilsen in the Rockefeller Mountains of King Edward VII Land.

Named For

Discovered by the Byrd Antarctic Expedition (ByrdAE) in 1929. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for John P. Strider, Aviation Machinist's Mate, U.S. Navy (USN), plane captain on the ski-equipped R4D carrying R. Admiral George Dufek that was the first aircraft to land at the geographic South Pole, on Oct. 31, 1956.
