Origin

This name originates from Bulgaria. It is part of the Bulgaria Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.

Narrative

The partly ice-free island 1.56 km long in W-E direction and 630 m wide in the Dannebrog Islands group of Wilhelm Archipelago in the Antarctic Peninsula region. Surface area 45.72 ha. Situated 85 m S of Elisabethinsel, 2.76 km SW of the W extremity of Booth Island and 2.33 km N of Peperuda Island.

Named For

So named because of its shape supposedly resembling a lamya, monster creature in Bulgarian mythology, and in association with other descriptive names of islands in the area.
