A conspicuous landmark 19 km south of Mulgrew Nunatak and 7 km north-west of Bastion Hill in the Brown Hills. Discovered by the Victoria University of Wellington Antarctic Expedition (1962-63). So named by the expedition because of the important role of the nunatak played as a landmark for manhauling sledge journeys and for aircraft flights which supported the expedition and always landed there.
