This name originates from Australia. It is part of the Australian Antarctic Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
The easternmost point of land on the rocky cape on which the base was built at Cape Denison.
The feature was named by Douglas Mawson during the Australasian Antarctic Expedition, 1911-1914 and appears on official maps of the expedition. Most likely named after the British village of John O'Groats. This village is at one end of the longest distance between two inhabited British points on the mainland, with Land's End to the southeast. Also see place name Land's End.
