The Masson Range is divided into three parts of which this is the northern. The Masson Range was discovered and named by BANZARE (1929-31) led by Sir Douglas Mawson. Mapped by Norwegian cartographers from air photographs taken by the Lars Christensen Expedition (1936-37) who called this part of the range Nordkammen (The North Crest).
