Narrative

An ice cape marking the northern extremity of Bjerkø+ Peninsula in the eastern part of Mac.Robertson Land. On the evening of 26 December, 1929, Sir Douglas Mawson of BANZARE (1929-31) reported that the surface of the ice-cap in the Cape Darnley region was miraged into view from the deck of the Discovery. This was entered as an appearance of land and left for later investigation. Cape Darnley was again sighted and named by BANZARE on 11 February, 1931; the Discovery was in the vicinity until 12 February. Named after E R Darnley, Chairman of the Discovery Committee of the Colonial Office, London.
