Narrative

An island at the north-west corner of the Rookery Islands off the coast of Mac.Robertson Land. Mapped by Norwegian cartographers from air photographs taken by the Lars Christensen Expedition (1936-37).

Named For

A giant petrel (Macronectes giganteus) rookery was discovered on the island by ANARE in December, 1958, hence the name.
