Narrative

A prominent, steep-sided rock island in Sandefjord Bay, about 24 km WNW of Mount Caroline Mikkelseen. Mapped by Norwegian cartographers from air photographs taken by the Lars Christensen Expedition (1936-37) and called Instøy (Inner Island). The island was visited many times by members of the ANARE Amery Ice Shelf party and the ANARE Prince Charles Mountains party in January-February, 1969. Named after A H F Nickols, electronics engineer with the Amery Ice Shelf party (1968).
