Fue descubierta por la Expedición Antártica Británica de 1934-1937, al mando de Rymill, quien la denominó isla Centre, seguramente por la posición que ocupa dentro de bahía Cuadrada. Para aprovechar su condición de nombre descriptivo, fue traducido por el Instituto Hidrográfico de la Armada de Chile en 1947 como isla Centro. Isla de 4 millas de extensión en sentido E-W por unas 2 en sentido N-S, situada al S de isla Broken, más o menos al centro de bahía Cuadrada, en bahía Margarita, costa occidental de la península Tierra de O'Higgins. |
