Es posible que esta punta haya sido avistada por la Expedición Antártica Alemana de 1873-1874, al mando de Eduard Dallman. Fue cartografiada por la Expedición Antártica Francesa de 1903-1905, al mando del Dr. Jean B. Charcot, quien le dio el nombre por el apellido del almirante Bayle, de la Armada Francesa.
