N point of Lautaro Island (q.v.), Danco Coast, following survey by FIDS from "Danco Island", 1957-58, was named after Vincent Michael O'Neill (b. 1928), FIDS radio operator/mechanic, "Danco Island", 1957-58, and "Deception Island", 1958-59, who was a member of a 3-man party that circumnavigated Bryde Island by dinghy in 1957 (BAS 250P sheet SQ 19-20/3, 1-DOS 1979; APC, 1980, p.4). Punta Independéncia, so called by AAE in honour of the declaration of Argentine independence, 9 July 1816 (Argentina. MD, 1978, letter I). |
