Pimpirev Ice Wall (historical) (BGR) | 62° 36' 42.0" S | 60° 23' 32.0" W | Wall |
Name ID: 105028
Place ID: 11271
Rectilinear ice scarp-slope, 50m high, running parallelly to and ca. 100 m inland from the coast of Emona Anchorage, Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands. Extending from the N corner of Emona Anchorage 3.7 km in WSW direction. In 1996 the feature was named 'Pimpirev Ice Wall' after Christo Pimpirev (b. 1953), geologist in the 1987-88 Bulgarian Antarctic campaign and leader of subsequent campaigns. The modified name form 'Pimpirev Ice Wall (historical)' preserves the memory of the place, while reflecting at the same time the fact that due to ongoing glacier thawing the feature is less conspicuous and distinctive than it used to be.
