in Lewthwaite Strait off W point of Powell Island, were charted by Sørlle, 1912-13, and named Hvalskjaer [=whale rock] (Sørlle and Borge, chart, 1913), later corrected to the plural form Hvalskjµrene (Sørlle, chart, 1930); recharted by DI in 1933. Small group of islands and rocks in Lewthwaite Strait in the South Orkney Islands, lying close W of Cape Disappointment, Powell Island. First charted and named "Hvalskjaer" by Petter Sorlle in 1912-13. The name was later corrected to the plural form, "Hvalskjaerene" (Whale Skerries), by Sorlle. The English form of the name was recommended by the UK-APC in 1954. |
