An E-W trending channel 0.5 mi wide, between Guepratte Island and Briggs Peninsula, on the NE side of Anvers Island, in the Palmer Archipelago. The channel was discovered by a German expedition under Dallmann, 1873-74, and in 1903-05 was charted by the FrAE under Charcot. During 1927 it was explored by DI personnel on the Discovery who applied the name. |

El estrecho fue descubierto por una expedición alemana al mando de Dallmann en 1873-1974. En 1903-1905, fue cartografiado por la Expedición Francesa al mando del Dr. Jean B. Charcot. Durante 1927 fue explorado por personal de la DI a bordo del "Discovery", quienes le pusieron el nombre de Discovery Sound. El nombre actual corresponde al apellido del abogado y escritor Óscar Pinochet de la Barra, del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Chile, quien participó en la Expedición Antártica Chilena de 1947. Estrecho en dirección E-W, de aproximadamente 0,6 milla de ancho y 1 milla de largo, que separa a la isla Guépratte de la punta Briggs de la isla Anvers, en el archipiélago de Palmer. |
