A nunatak in the central part of the Manning Nunataks in the south-east part of the Amery Ice Shelf. The Manning Nunataks were photographed by ANARE aircraft in 1957. This feature was visited by a geological party from the Soviet Antarctic Expedition on New Year's Day 1966. New Year Nunatak was used as a survey station during the Prince Charles Mountains Survey by ANARE in 1969.

A nunatak in the central part of the Manning Nunataks in the SE part of Amery Ice Shelf. Plotted from air photos taken by ANARE in 1957. So named by ANCA because the nunatak was visited by a geological party of the SovAE on New Year's Day of 1966.
