Es posible que esta punta haya sido avistada por la Expedición Antártica Alemana de 1873-1874, al mando de Eduard Dallman. Fue cartografiada por la Expedición Antártica Francesa de 1903-1905, al mando del Dr. Jean B. Charcot, quien le dio el nombre por el apellido del almirante Bayle, de la Armada Francesa. Charles-Jessé Bayle (1842-1918), of the French Navy (Charcot, 1906b, p.470; Gourdon, 1908, end map; Matha and Rey, 1911, Pl. 3). Point Bayle (USHO, 1943, p.128). Punta Bayle (Argentina. MM chart 106, 1949; Pierrou, 1970, p.193; Chile. IHA, 1974, p.42). Cape Bayle, following air photography by FIDASE in 1956-57 (APC, 1959a, p.4; BA chart 3566, 16.x.1959). Cabo Bayle (Chile.
