Fue descubierto por la Expedición Antártica Francesa de 1908-1910, al mando del Dr. Jean B. Charcot, quien denominó a los montes de esta isla con nombres de ciudades francesas. Monte de aproximadamente 1.400 metros de elevación, que está ubicado a 13,4 millas al SW del cabo Arauco, extremo N de la isla Alejandro I.

A small island in the extreme south-western part of the Rauer Group off the Ingrid Christensen Coast. Mapped from air photographs taken by the Lars Christensen Expedition (1936-37). Photographed by USN Operation Highjump (1946-47), the Soviet Antarctic Expedition in 1956 and ANARE in 1956 and 1957.

rising to c. 1600m at N end of Rouen Mountains, N Alexander Island, was sighted by FAE, 1903-05, in January 1905, and named Massif Bayonne after the city in S France (Charcot, 1912, Pl. 1; Bongrain, 1914, vues 39 and 42 following p.60). Mountain, 1,500 m, forming the N extremity of the Rouen Mountains in Alexander Island. First mapped by the FrAE, 1908-10, under Charcot, who named it for the French city. Resighted from the air by the BGLE in 1936. Remapped from air photos taken by the RARE, 1947-48, by Searle of the FIDS in 1960.
