El nombre se lo dieron los balleneros que operaban en esta zona. El nombre actual es traducción (Paradise) y aparece registrado por primera vez en la carta levantada por la Expedición Antártica Belga de 1897-1899 por el teniente Adrien de Gerlache. Es posible que la conformación geológica y glaciológica del área, como asimismo lo benigno del clima reinante, haya inspirado a quienes la denominaron así. Amplia bahía situada detrás de las islas Lemaire y Bryde, en la costa W de la península Tierra de O'Higgins, desde el cabo Lacaze-Duthiers en el NE de punta Léniz a 9 millas hacia el SW. La bahía se encuentra rodeada de elevadas montañas cubiertas completamente de hielo, de costas acantiladas formadas por barreras de hielo. |
