One of the Balaena Islands, off the Budd Coast, Wilkes Land, about 2 km WSW of Thompson Island. The Balaena Islands were delineated from air photographs taken on 2 February 1947 by USN Operation Highjump (1946-47). The islands were probably sketched during an ice reconnaissance flight from the Factory Ship Balaena ten days after the Highjump photography and thought to be peaks. Named after John Grierson, Flight Commodore on the Balaena. |
