NE tip of Reclus Peninsula, Danco Coast, forming SW entrance point of Charlotte Bay, is the site of a FIDS station established on 7 December 1956 and occupied intermittently for survey work, 1957-58, after which it was closed; was so named because a route to the central plateau of N Graham Land was established from the station, the name being descriptive of a gateway (APC, 1960, p.6; BA chart 3566, 25.viii.1961). No letter was assigned to the station, as in the case of other FIDS stations, but it was referred to as "Portal Point" or "Reclus Peninsula". |
