La Expedición Francesa del Dr. Jean B. Charcot, realizada entre los años 1903-1905, lo denominó en honor a R. Rallier du Baty, pilotín de la Marina Mercante embarcado en el "Français". Islote de poca altura y cubierto totalmente de nieve situado al WNW y a 400 mts. de distancia de cabo Hérveou de la isla Booth, situada frente a la costa occidental de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.

off Hervéou Point, Booth Island, Graham Coast, was charted by FAE, 1903-05, in 1904 and named IÎlot Rallier du Baty after Raymond Rallier du Baty (b.1881), French merchant marine cadet who served as a seaman in the expedition ship Franc ais; Leader of French expeditions to Îles Kerguelen, 1907-10 and 1912-14 (Charcot, 1906b, p.473). IÎle Rallier du Baty (Charcot, 1908, map p.39). Rallier du Baty Islets, including nearby small islands (USHO, 1943, p.136). Islotes Rallier du Baty, including nearby small islands (Argentina. MM, 1953, p.288; Pierrou, 1970, p.615). Rallier du Baty Islet (USBGN, 1956, p.252). The island was photographed from the air by FIDASE, 1956-57. Rallier Island (APC, 1959a, p.10; USBGN, 1960, p.7; BA chart 3572, 12.viii.1960). Islote Rallier du Baty (Chile. DNH, 1962, p.175; IHA, 1974, p.237).

Small island with a small islet off its N side, lying 0.25 mi W of the NW extremity of Booth Island, in the Wilhelm Archipelago. Discovered by the FrAE under Charcot, 1903-05, and named by him for Raymond Rallier du Baty, merchant marine cadet who signed on as seaman on the ship Francais.
