rising to c. 100m on N side of Whalers Bay (q.v.), Deception Island, following geological work by NAE, 1927-28, was named Mount Ronald after the Norwegian factory ship Ronald of the Hektor Whaling Company, which operated from Whalers Bay for many seasons in the period 1911-31 (Holtedahl, 1929, p.29, 31 and Pl. 13-16 following p.172). Charted, photographed and named by Olaf Holtedahl of the Norwegian expedition 1927-28, after the floating factory S.S. Ronald, which belonged to the Hektor Whaling Co. and was anchored at Deception Island in 1911-12 and many later seasons. |
