rising 1.5m above sea level NW of Renier Point, Livingston Island, in entrance of McFarlane Strait, were roughly charted by the nineteenth-century sealers (Powell, chart, 1822a); recharted by DI, 1934-35, and named descriptively (BA, 1942, p.43; chart 1774, 9.vii.1948; APC, 1955, p.18; BA chart 1776, 19.vii.1968). Rocas Rugged (Argentina. MM chart ZZ, 1948; Chile. IHA, 1974, p.251). Rocas Escarpada [translation of English name] (Argentina. MM, 1953, p.208b). Rocas Rugosas [=rugose rocks] (Argentina. MM, 1953, p.215; Pierrou, 1970, p.640). Islote Hoffman, referring to the largest rock after a crew member of the Argentine corvette Uruguay, 1904-05 (Argentina. MD, 1978, letter H). |

Small group of rocks at the W side of the S entrance to McFarlane Strait, lying just N of Renier Point, Livingston Island, in the South Shetland Islands. These rocks were known to early sealers in the area and appear on Powell's map of 1822. They were recharted in 1935 by DI personnel on the Discovery II and given this descriptive name. |

Estas rocas eran conocidas por los antiguos balleneros chilenos y noruegos que operaron en esta zona y aparecen en el mapa de Powell de 1822. En 1935 le fue dado este nombre descriptivo por personal del Discovery II. Forman un grupo compuesto de tres rocas principales y varias menores, todas de poca altura, situadas a 5 cables al NNW de punta Pin en isla Livingston, islas Shetland del Sur. |
