W end of Wilhelm Archipelago, Graham Coast, may have been sighted by BeAE in February 1898 (Lecointe, 1903, p.93-95); were roughly charted by FAE, 1903-05, as one island and named Île Betbeder after Contra-almte O. Betbeder (Cape Betbeder, q.v.), who facilitated the refit of the expedition ship Fran ais at Buenos Aires in December 1903 (Charcot, 1906b, p.xxxv, 476; 1906a, map facing p.316); following FAE 1908-10, renamed Îlots Betbeder (Charcot, 1910, p.81). Betbeder Öya (HA chart, 1927). Betbeder Islands (BA chart 3175, 1.iii.1940; APC, 1959a, p.4; DOS 610 sheet W 65 64, 1959). Betbeder Island (USAAF chart [LR-74], 1942). Isla Betbeder (Rymill and others, 1943, map facing p.96). Islas Betbeder (Argentina. IGM map, 1946). Betbeder Islets (BA chart 3196, 12.xi.1948; APC, 1955, p.5). Islotes Betbeder (Argentina. MM, 1953, p.286; Pierrou, 1970, p.201; Chile. IHA, 1974, p.46). The islands were photographed from the air by FIDASE in 1956-57. Isla Tucapel, as rejected name (Sooty Rock, q.v.) (Chile. IHA, 1974, p.46).

Group of small islands and rocks in the SW part of the Wilhelm Archipelago, 22 mi W of Cape Tuxen. Discovered by the FrAE, 1903-05, and named by Charcot for R. Admiral Onofre Betbeder, Argentine Navy.

Fueron descubiertos por la Expedición Antártica Francesa de 1903-1905, al mando del Dr. Jean B. Charcot, quien le dio el nombre por el apellido del contraalmirante Onofre Betbeder, ministro de Marina argentino. En algunas cartas chilenas de 1947, estos islotes figuraron como islas Betbeder y como isla Tucapel. Es un grupo compuesto de dos islotes principales, rodeado de otros menores y rocas, que emergen a 23 millas al W del cabo Tuxen de la costa occidental de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.
