COMPOSITE GAZETTEER OF ANTARCTICA

A group of about 15 islands (previously also named as nunataks) off the Nordenskjöld Coast, E side of Antarctic Peninsula, Weddell Sea. Discovered during the expedition 1893/94 (vessels 'Jason' and 'Hertha') under the Norwegian Captain Carl Anton Larsen, financed by the Hamburg Company Woltereck & Robertson.

a cluster of sixteen volcanic cones E of Cape Fairweather, Nordenskjöld Coast, rising up to c. 320m above Larsen Ice Shelf and comprising, from E to W, Christensen Nunatak, Oceana Nunatak (on Robertson Island), Pollux Nunatak, Castor Nunatak, Larsen Nunatak, Murdoch Nunatak, Arctowski Nunatak, Hertha Nunatak, Gray Nunatak, Donald Nunatak, Åkerlundh Nunatak, Bruce Nunatak, Dallmann Nunatak, Evensen Nunatak, Bull Nunatak and Pedersen Nunatak. The nunataks were roughly charted by Larsen, 11 December 1893, and named Sµløerne (Larsen, 1894a, p.128), Sel Öerne (Larsen, 1994b, p.342) or Seal Islands (Larsen, 1894b, p.342; BA chart 1238, iii.1901; 1916, p.409). The feature was further surveyed by SwAE, 8 October 1902, and reported to comprise nunataks rather than islands. Chain of nunataks trending WNW from Robertson Island and protruding above Larsen Ice Shelf, off the E coast of Antarctic Peninsula. Discovered and named Seal Islands in December 1893 by a Norwegian whaling expedition under C.A. Larsen, who also named several individual features in the group. They were surveyed in 1902 by the SwedAE under Nordenskjold, who determined them to be nunataks, and by the FIDS in 1947.

Fueron descubiertos y denominados, islas Seal, en diciembre de 1893 por una Expedición Ballenera Noruega al mando de C. A. Larsen que también dio nombre a varios caracteres aislados del grupo.
