SCAR Gazetteer Information: Each place can have one or more entries in the SCAR Composite Gazetteer, dependant on its origin. By viewing an individual entry, you may see multiple references to the same place. SCAR uses a more general feature type coding, so each place will, in general, have multiple feature types.

South Masson Range (USA) 67° 53' 00.0" S 62° 47' 00.0" E Range
Name ID: 131928 Place ID: 13729

The Masson Range is divided into three parts of which this segment is the southern, rising to 1,070 m and extending 2 mi in a NE-SW arc. The Masson Range was discovered and named by BANZARE, 1929-31, under Mawson. This southern range was mapped by Norwegian cartographers from air photos taken by the Lars Christensen Expedition, 1936-37, and named Sorkammen (the south comb or crest). The approved name, suggested by ANCA in 1960, more clearly identifies the feature as a part of Masson Range.
