El nombre fue puesto por la I Expedición Antártica Chilena en el año 1947, por el teniente 1º Sr. Custodio Labbé Lippi, oficial navegante del transporte "Angamos". Islotes situados a 2,5 millas al W de isla Petermann, al N de costa Graham, W de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.

on NE side of French Passage between Petermann Island and Vedel Islands, Graham Coast, were photographed from the air by FIDASE in 1956 and from the helicopter of HMS Protector in March 1958, and mapped from air photographs; so named from their scattered distribution (APC, 1959a, p.11; BA chart 3572, 12.viii.1960). Islotes Labbé, so called by CAE after Tte 1° C. Labbé L. (Labbé Rock, q.v.) (Chile. DNH chart 1502, 1962; IHA, 1974, p.173). Islote Stray, apparently referring to the SW-most of the islands (Chile. DNH, 1962, p.178).

Scattered but distinct group of islands lying 2 mi W of Petermann Island, in the Wilhelm Archipelago. Mapped by the FIDS from photos taken by Hunting Aerosurveys Ltd. in 1956-57 and from the helicopter of HMS Protector in March 1958. So named by the UK-APC because the group is scattered.
