rising to 535m, N of Wiggins Glacier, Graham Coast, was roughly mapped by FAE, 1908-10, in 1909 and named Sommet Blanchard, after M. Blanchard, then French Consul at Punta Arenas and a shareholder in the Sociedad Ballenera de Magallanes, which helped the expedition (Charcot, 1910, p.25; 1912, Pl. 4). A prominent mountain, 2600 m above sea level, south of the Mulock Glacier nivi, into which it falls away steeply. Discovered by the Darwin Glacier party of the TAE and first climbed in December, 1957, when a survey station was established at its highest point. Named after H.H. Ayres, one of the two men comprising the Darwin Glacier party. |
