The southern and larger of two small rocky islands just off the coast about seven miles ENE of Cape North. A landing was made on the island on 11 February 1962, by members of the ANARE 1962. The New Zealand flag was raised, an astrofix obtained and scientific work carried out. Named by ANARE after the expedition ship.

The southern of two small, rocky islands lying just off the NW edge of Davis Ice Piedmont, along the N coast of Victoria Land. Named by ANARE after M.V. Thala Dan, one of two expedition ships used by ANARE in 1962 to explore this area.
