Pass extending in an E-W direction between Rouen Mountains and Elgar Uplands in the N part of Alexander Island. First seen from the air and roughly mapped by the BGLE in 1937. Remapped from air photos taken by the RARE, 1947-48, by Searle of the FIDS in 1960. Named by the RARE for Tufts University, Medford, MA, where Dr. Robert Nichols was head of the geology department before joining the RARE.
