En costa E de isla Coronación, islas Orcadas del Sur. Su topónimo proviene de su forma característica, coronado por desprendimientos casi simétricos en la cumbre. El accidente fue avistado por la expedición conjunta de Palmer y Powell a fines de 1821, pero fue cartografiado por la EBCD en 1933, siendo su actual nombre una traducción del inglés. headland rising to 460 m SE of Gibbon Bay, E Coronation Island, was probably sighted by Powell and Palmer in December 1821; charted by DI in 1933 and named descriptively (BA chart 1775, 17.viii.1934; APC, 1955, p.21; DOS 510 South Orkney Islands, West Sheet, 1963). Promontorio Almena [=turret promontory] (Argentina. MM chart 117, 1952; Pierrou, 1970, p.158). La Torre [=the tower] (Argentina. MM chart 31, 1954). The feature was surveyed by FIDS from Signy, 1956-58. |

Conspicuous rocky headland, 460 m high, at the S side of the entrance to Gibbon Bay on the E coast of Coronation Island, in the South Orkney Islands. Probably first sighted by Capt. George Powell and Capt. Nathaniel Palmer who discovered these islands in December 1821. Charted and given this descriptive name by DI personnel on the Discovery II in 1933. |
