N-most group of islands in Wilhelm Archipelago (q.v.), bounded to the N by Bismarck Strait, to the E by Butler Passage, and to the S by Nimrod Passage, individual islands being named for the most part after characters from Chaucer's Canterbury tales. The islands were roughly charted by BeAE, 9 February 1898, when a landing was made on one of the islands; named Îles Wauwermans after Lieut. Gen. H. Wauwermans of Antwerp, a benefactor of the expedition (Lecointe, map, 1899; 1900a, p.33-34 and map facing p.132). Group of small, low, snow-covered islands forming the northernmost group in the Wilhelm Archipelago. Discovered by a German expedition 1873-74, under Dallmann. Sighted by the BelgAE, 1897-99, under Gerlache, and named for Lieutenant General Wauwermans, president of the Societe Royale de Geographie, Antwerp, a supporter of the expedition.

Las islas fueron descubiertas por la Expedición Alemana realizada en los años 1873-1874, al mando de Eduard Dallmann. Ellas fueron avistadas por la Expedición Belga de 1897-1899, al mando del teniente Adrien de Gerlache quien la denominó así por el teniente general Wauwermans, Presidente de la Real Sociedad de Geografía de Antwerp y un colaborador de la Expedición. Cordón de islas bajas y pequeñas cubiertas de nieve situadas en el estrecho Bismarck y que se extiende por 9 millas en dirección E-W a 3 millas al W del cabo Errera de la isla Wiencke.
