E-most of the Wauwermans Islands (q.v.), Wilhelm Archipelago, was charted and named by BGLE on Wednesday, 29 January 1936 (Rymill, 1938b; USHO chart 6653, 1946; BA chart 3196, 12.xi.1948; APC, 1955, p.22; BA chart 3572, 25.vii.1958). Isla Viernes [=Friday [sic] island] (Chile. DNH chart LI, 1947). Isla Mara, after a South American rodent (Argentina. MM, 1953, views on p.250b, 270b). Isla Miércoles [translation of English name] (Argentina. MM chart NU, 1954). Île Wednesday (France. SHM, 1954, p.48). The island was photographed from the air by FIDASE and recharted by an RN Hydrographic Survey Unit, 1956-58. Islas Articuladas [=articulated islands], including offlying smaller islands (Argentina. MM chart 130, 1957). Islas Mara, Islas Miércoles, as rejected names (Argentina. MM, 1957b, p.1). Wednesday (Chile. DNH, 1962, p.169). Isla Wednesday (Chile. DNH chart 1501, 1962; IHA, 1974, p.300). |

Island 1 mi long, at the E end of Wauwermans Islands in the N part of Wilhelm Archipelago. The Wauwermans Islands were discovered by the German expedition under Dallmann, 1873-74, and were later roughly mapped by the BelgAE under Gerlache, 1897-99, and the FrAE under Charcot, 1903-05. Wednesday Island was charted by the BGLE, 1934-37, under Rymill, and so named because it was first sighted on a Wednesday. |

Las islas Wauwermans fueron descubiertas por la Expedición Alemana realizada entre los años 1873-1874, al mando de Eduard Dallmann y fueron más tarde cartografiadas en forma incompleta por la Expedición Belga, al mando del teniente Adrien de Gerlache, que realizó trabajos en el área en los años 1897-1899 y por la Expedición Francesa dirigida por el Dr. Jean B. Charcot de los años 1903-1905. La isla Wednesday fue cartografiada por la Expedición Británica que se realizó en los años 1934-1937, bajo la dirección de John Rymill y llamada así debido a que la Expedición de Rymill la avistó en un día miércoles. Isla aproximadamente de 1,5 milla de largo, siendo la más al E de la islas Wauwermans. Está situada a 3 millas al WSW del cabo Errera de isla Wiencke y en extremo SW del archipiélago de Palmer. |
