flowing SW into Börgen Bay, SE Anvers Island, was roughly charted by BeAE in February 1898; further charted by DI in 1927 and so named in association with Mount William (q.v.), possible after the usage of whalers (BA chart 3213, 14.i.1929; APC, 1955, p.22; BA chart 3572, 29.xi.1974; BAS 250P sheet SQ 19-20/3, 1-DOS 1979). The glacier was further surveyed from a distance by FIDS from "Port Lockroy" in 1944. Glaciar Guillermo [translation of English name] (Vila Labra, 1947, p.91). Ventisquero Guillermo (Chile. DNH chart LI, 1947). Glaciar William (Argentina. MM chart 106, 1949; Chile. IHA, 1974, p.302). Glaciar Tolosa, so called by AAE after a sailor of the Argentine Marine Infantry who was killed at the battle of Martín Garciá in March 1814 (Argentina. MM, 1953, p.268; Pierrou, 1970, p.690). The glacier was resurveyed by FIDS from "Arthur Harbour" in November 1955.

Glacier flowing S from the interior highlands of Anvers Island to the head of Borgen Bay on the SE coast of the island, in the Palmer Archipelago. Discovered by the BelgAE, 1897-99, under Gerlache, and charted by them simply as a "grand glacier." The name William Glacier first appears on a chart based upon a 1927 survey by DI personnel on the Discovery.

Este glaciar fue descubierto por la Expedición Belga realizada entre los años 1897-1899, bajo la dirección del teniente Adrien de Gerlache y cartografiado por ellos, simplemente como un "Gran Glaciar". El nombre apareció primero en una carta basada en un levantamiento del año 1927 del personal del Discovery. Glaciar de dimensiones apreciables que fluye hacia el sur desde las tierras altas interiores de la isla Anvers a bahía Borgen, en la costa S de dicha isla en el archipiélago de Palmer.
