dividing Lassiter Coast from Orville Coast, was photographed from the air by RARE on 21 November 1947 (Ronne, 1948b, p.372), following which the name Isaiah Bowman Coast, after Dr I. Bowman (Bowman Coast, q.v.), was applied to that part of the mainland coast SW of Mount Tricorn (AGS, map, 1948). Following ground survey by FIDS-RARE from "Stonington Island" in December 1947, the name of Bowman was transferred to the present feature. Peninsula, 25 mi long in a N-S direction and 15 mi wide in its N and central portions, lying between Nantucket and Gardner Inlets on the E coast of Palmer Land. The peninsula is ice covered and narrows toward the S, terminating in Cape Adams. Discovered by the RARE, 1947-48, under Ronne, who named it for Isaiah Bowman. |

Descubierta por el RARE de 1947-1948, al mando de Finne Ronne, quien le puso el nombre por el apellido de Isaiah Bowman, ex director de la Sociedad Geográfica Americana. Photographed by USN Operation Highjump (1946-47), the Third Soviet Maritime Expedition in 1958, ANARE in 1959 and the US Navy in 1960-62. The feature was named by the US Geological Survey in 1961-62 and used as intersected survey station. |
