The ice-free tipped point on the NW coast of Smith Island, South Shetland Islands projecting for 1.2 km west-southwestwards into Drake Passage to form the N side of the entrance to Cabut Cove. Situated 14.5 km SW of Cape Smith, 2 km SSW of Gregory Point and 19.8 km NNE of Cape James. Bulgarian mapping in 2009. Named after the medieval fortress of Markeli in Southeastern Bulgaria. |
