A distinctive nunatak, on the northwestern slopes of Mount Erebus, Ross Island. The nunatak is in close proximity to the summit of Mount Erebus and is in keeping with other features in this area which are also named after members of the British National Antarctic Expedition (1910-13). Named by New Zealand after Thomas Clissold (1886-1963), cook on the British National Antarctic Expedition (1910-13), in association with the 2012 Scott Centenary year. Clissold was one of four men who hauled extra provisions to One Ton Depot in December 1911 and January 1912. |
