Avistado por primera vez en 1909, a la distancia, por la Expedición Antártica Francesa de 1908-1910, al mando del Dr. Jean B. Charcot, aunque fue cartografiado como parte de una pequeña isla. Fue aerofotografiado en 1937 por la BGLE, al mando de John Rymill, y más tarde cartografiado en forma aproximada desde los mismos fotogramas. Levantado en terreno en 1948 por Colin C. Brown, hidrógrafo del FIDS en la isla Stonigtong, 1948-1949, por cuyo apellido recibió su nombre este cabo. En cartas chilenas de 1947 figuró como punta 8 de Octubre, nombre colocado por la Expedición Antártica Chilena de 1947 y que corresponde a la fecha del Combate de Angamos en el año 1879. Cabo ubicado a 35 millas al SSE del cabo Arauco, sobre la costa oriental de la isla Alejandro I, y que marca el extremo W de la entrada al canal Jorge VI.

W entrance point of George VI Sound, was seen from a distance by FAE, 1908-10, in January 1909 but shown as part of an island (Mount Nicholas, q.v.) (Charcot, 1912, Pl. 2); photographed from the air by BGLE on 1 February 1937; called Punta 8 de Octubre by CAE, 1947, in honour of the date of the battle of Angamos, 8 October 1879 (Chile. DNH chart LIII, 1947); surveyed from the ground by FIDS from Stonington Island in 1948; named after Colin Chalmers Brown (b. 1926), FIDS surveyor, "Stonington Island", 1948-50, who surveyed the S part of Marguerite Bay and George VI Sound S to Ablation Point; surveyor with FIDASE, 1955-57 (APC, 1955, p.6; USHO chart 6638, 1955; BA chart 3175, 5.vii.1957; DOS 610 sheet W 69 68, 1963). Cabo Nicolás, in error for Mount Nicholas (q.v.) (Argentina. MM, 1958a, p.365; Pierrou, 1970, p.549; Chile. IHA, 1974, p.212). Cabo Brown (Argentina. MM, 1960b, p.167). Mys Braun (Soviet Union. Prominent ice-covered cape 5.5 mi NNE of the summit of Mount Nicholas, marking the E side of the entrance to Schokalsky Bay on the NE coast of Alexander Island. First seen from a distance by the FrAE under Charcot in 1909, but charted as part of a small island. Photographed from the air in 1937 by the BGLE under Rymill, and later roughly mapped from the photos. Surveyed from the ground in 1948 by Colin C. Brown, FIDS surveyor at Stonington Island, 1948-49, for whom the cape is named.

A prominent, isolated peak about 59 km south of Cape Simpson in Mac.Robertson Land. Discovered on 18 February 1931 by BANZARE (1929-31) under Sir Douglas Mawson, who named it after Dr H.R. Mill.
