El nombre, que apareció por primera vez en una carta chilena de 1962, corresponde al apellido del sargento Juan de Dios Aldea, de la Armada de Chile, uno de los héroes del Combate Naval de Iquique, Chile, el 21 de mayo de 1879. Grupo de islas e islotes situado frente a la costa SW de la isla Renaud, islas Biscoe, y que se centra a 5,5 millas al NE de la punta extremo SE de la misma isla.

off E coast of Renaud Island, Biscoe Islands, were photographed from the air by AAE in 1956; in association with the names of other sea-ice specialists grouped in this area, named after Julius Büdel (1903-83), German author of Atlas der Eisverhältnisse des Nordatlantischen Ozeans und Ubersichtskarten der Eisverhältnisse des Nord-und Südpolargebietes (Hamburg, 1950) (APC, 1959a, p. 5; BA chart 3573, 26.viii. 1960). Islas Aldea, after Sargento J. de D. Aldea (Aldea Island, q.v.) (Chile. DNH chart 1502, 1962; IHA, 1974, p. 22).

Group of islands lying between Laktionov Island and Schule Island, off the E side of Renaud Island in the Biscoe Islands. First accurately shown on an Argentine government chart of 1957. Named by the UK-APC in 1959 for Julius Budel, German sea ice specialist.

A close group of four peaks about 42 km ESE of Mount Banfield in the Hansen Mountains, Kemp Land. Plotted from ANARE air photographs. Named after R. Maruff, field assistant (survey), with the ANARE Expedition on the MV Nella Dan, 1965, a leader of one of the survey parties which carried out a tellurometer traverse passing through the Hansen Mountains in 1965.
