Fue descubierto por la Expedición Antártica Francesa de 1908-1910, al mando del Dr. Jean B. Charcot, quien equivocadamente lo apreció y lo cartografió como isla y la llamó isla Calmette, por Gastón "Calmette", editor de "Le Figaro", quien equipó a la Expedición con copias de ese periódico de los dos años anteriores a la Expedición Antártica Británica de 1934-1937, al mando de John Rymill, determinó su verdadera naturaleza. Se da este nombre al extremo de la península rocosa que cierra a bahía Calmette por el S, en la costa occidental de la península Tierra de O'Higgins. Sus laderas son acantilados de piedra desnuda y alcanza una altura de 460 metros.

SW entrance point of Calmette Bay, Marguerite Bay, Fallières Coast, was roughly mapped as an island by FAE, 1908-10, in January 1909 and named Île Calmette after Gaston Calmette (1858-1914), editor of Le Figaro, Paris, who presented the expedition with copies of his newspaper for the two years preceding the expedition (Charcot, 1912, Pl. 1). Calmette Island (BA chart 3175, 9.x.1914). Calmette Öya (HA chart, 1927). The feature was re-mapped by BGLE and named Cape Calmette (Rymill, 1938a, map facing p.432; APC, 1955, p.6; DCS 601 sheet 68 66, 1955). Cabo Calmette (Chile. Cape marking the W extremity of a rocky peninsula which rises more than 625 m and projects from the W coast of Graham Land for 3 mi to form the S shore of Calmette Bay. Discovered in 1909 by the FrAE under Charcot, who from a distance mistook this cape for an island. The BGLE under Rymill, 1934-37, determined the true nature of the feature. Named by Charcot for Gaston Calmette, editor of Le Figoro, who furnished the FrAE with copies of this newspaper for the two years preceding the expedition.

An isolated group of rocks at the western end of the southern margin of Khmara Bay in Enderby Land. A prominent feature of the geology of these outcrops is the transposed layering.
