Axthelm, USN, Executive Officer in the Glacier during US Operations Deepfreeze 1965 and 1966; and Flag Secretary for USN Task Force 43 during Operations Deepfreeze 1969 and 1970. |

Named by US-ACAN for Lt. David W. Carey, pilot with USN Squadron VX-6, who was killed in the crash of a P2V Neptune airplane at McMurdo Sound in October 1956. |
