Chandler, USN, pilot of R4D aircraft in support of the traverse party (USGS sketch map Ellsworth Land-Palmer Land, 1969; APC, 1975, p.3; BAS 500P sheet SS 17-20/SE, 1-DOS 1981).

A mountain 2.5 mi NW of Mount Caywood in the Behrendt Mountains, Ellsworth Land. Mapped by USGS from surveys and USN air photos, 1961-67. Named by US-ACAN for Lt. Cdr. J.L. Chandler, USN, pilot of R4D aircraft in support of the Antarctic Peninsula Traverse party to this area, 1961-62.

The strait runs east off the Edisto Channel between the north-eastern tip of Thomas Island and the western part of the Charnockite Peninsula. At its narrowest between the two landforms it is 0.4 kms wide. Mapped by the Soviet Antarctic Expedition in 1956.
