Descubierto por la BelgAE, bajo el mando del teniente Adrien de Gerlache, 1897-1899. En una carta basada en un levantamiento efectuado en 1927 por personal de la DI, embarcado en el Discovery, apareció con el nombre de Channel Glacier, aunque este pudiera reflejar un nombre anterior. El nombre actual corresponde al apellido del delegado del Ministerio de Defensa Nacional de Chile Miguel Casais Morales, embarcado en la PF. "Iquique" de la Armada de Chile, durante la Expedición Antártica Chilena de 1952. Glaciar continuo de aproximadamente 1,5 milla de largo, que se extiende en dirección E-W a través de la parte N de la isla Wiencke, archipiélago de Palmer.

E-W through glacier between Neumayer Channel and Gerlache Strait, NE Wiencke Island, was roughly charted by BeAE; further charted by DI in 1927 and named descriptively, possibly following the usage of whalers (BA chart 3213, 14.i.1929; APC, 1955, p.7; BA chart 3566, 16.x.1959). Ventisquero Canal [translation of English name] (Chile. DNH chart LII, 1947). Primera Garganta [=first pass], in association with Thunder Glacier (q.v.) (Argentina. MM, 1953, p.270d). The glacier was resurveyed by FIDS from Norsel in 1955. Glaciar Canal (Argentina. MM chart 129, 1957; Pierrou, 1970, p.234). Glaciar Channel, Ventisquero Channel, as rejected forms (Argentina. MM, 1957b, p.2).

A through glacier, 1.5 mi long, extending in an E-W direction across Wiencke Island, between Nipple Peak and Wall Range, in the Palmer Archipelago. Discovered by the BelgAE under Gerlache 1897-99. The name appears on a chart based on a 1927 survey by DI personnel on the Discovery.

The subglacial basin lies within the Australian Antarctic Territory north of Dome C. It runs ENE-WSW and joins the Adventure Subglacial Trench with the Aurora Subglacial Basin.
