A prominent dolerite bluff near the baseline in the névé above the Bowden Névé. Named by the Northern Party of the NZGSAE, 1961-62, because there are coal seams in the bluff. The Coalsack is also the name for the dark patch in the sky beside the Southern Cross.

A small rock bluff standing at the northern limits of Walcott Neve, 6 mi WSW of Bauhs Nunatak. So named by the NZGSAE (1961-62) because of the coal seams found running through the bluff.
