NE point of Pasteur Peninsula, Brabant Island, was roughly charted by Foster in 1829 and named probably after Adm. of the Fleet Sir G. Cockburn, RN (Cockburn Island, q.v.) (Foster and Kendall, chart, 1829a; BA chart 1238, 7.ix.1839; APC, 1955, p.7; BAS 250 sheet SQ 19-20/4, 1-DOS 1974); recharted by FAE, 1903-05. Cap Cockburn (Friederichsen, 1895, Tafel 7 facing p.304). Cabo Cockburn (Riso Patron S., 1908, end map; Pierrou, 1970, p.252; Chile. IHA, 1974, p.79). Kapp Cockburn (HA chart, 1928). Cap Cockbrun [sic] (France. SHM, 1937, p.405). The cape was photographed from the air by FIDASE in 1956-57. |

Cape marking the NE extremity of Pasteur Peninsula on Brabant Island, in the Palmer Archipelago. The name appears on a chart based upon a British expedition under Foster, 1828-31, who perhaps gave the name for George Cockburn, British naval officer and Admiral of the Fleet in 1851. The cape was charted by the FrAE under Charcot, 1903-05. |

El nombre apareció en una carta basada en la Expedición Británica de 1828-1831, al mando del capitán Henry Foster, quien le dio el nombre posiblemente por el almirante George Cockburn, RN., que posteriormente en 1851, fue almirante de la flota.
