COMPOSITE GAZETTEER OF ANTARCTICA

in entrance of Lallemand Fjord, Loubet Coast, was charted by FAE, 1908-10, and named Îlot Detaille after M. Detaille, a French resident of Punta Arenas and shareholder in the Sociedad Ballenera Magallanes [Magellan Whaling Company], who assisted the expedition to obtain supplies at Deception Island (Charcot, 1910, p.25) (Charcot, [1911b], p.282; 1912, Pl. 1). Detaille Islet (USBGN, 1951, p.18; APC, 1955, p.8; DCS 601 sheet 66 66, 1955). The island was recharted by FIDS from John Biscoe in February 1956 and the name Lent Islands was applied to this and off-lying islands, lent beginning on 15 February in 1956 (BA, 1958, p.94). A FIDS station, originally called "Base W" or "Loubet Coast" (later "Detaille Island"), was established on the island, 24 February 1956, and occupied continuously until 1 April 1959. Small island lying 2 mi NW of Andresen Island in the entrance of Lallemand Fjord, off the W coast of Graham Land. Discovered by the FrAE, 1908-10, under Charcot, who named it for Monsieur Detaille of Punta Arenas, shareholder in the Magellan Whaling Co., who assisted Charcot in obtaining supplies at the company's whaling base at Deception Island.

Fue descubierta por la Expedición Antártica Francesa de 1908-1910, al mando del Dr. Jean B. Charcot quien le dio este nombre por monsieur Detaille de la ciudad de Punta Arenas, encargado de la compañía ballenera de Magallanes. Situada al NW de la isla Andressen y al N del fiordo Lallemand, alrededor de 4 millas al W de la costa de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.
