A steep stratified island, 2 1/2 miles long in a north-south direction, near the southern end of Robertson Bay, along the north coast of Victoria Land. It rises to a height of 555m, and is remarkable for its layers of blue, red and green rock. Broad, deep quartz reefs cut through the island from east to west. It was first charted in 1899 by the BAE, 1898-1900, who named it for HRH the Duke of York.

A mountainous ice-free island, 2.5 mi long, lying in the S part of Robertson Bay, along the N coast of Victoria Land. First charted in 1899 by the BrAE under C.E. Borchgrevink, who named it for the Duke of York.
